7 Ways to Stay Slim……for Life.

If you’ve recently lost some weight its a struggle to actually keep it off and easier to go back to your old ways…Even if your naturally slim sometimes it’s hard to maintain.   These 7 ways to stay slim for life should be an easy way for you to add them into your lifestyle and not be seen as a diet!

1 – Never Eat Cereal That Colours The Milk…

These cereals may taste great but they are also extremely high in sugar.   Instead, try to choose high-fibre cereals that contain bran, or even better try having some eggs.  Studies have shown that people who have eggs for breakfast eat nearly 400 calories less for the rest of the day as they are fuller longer.

2 – Use an Old Cook Book…

If you use an old cookery book – we’re not saying you should dust off an antique – but even one from 10 / 15 years ago you’ll notice that the serving sizes used to be smaller, which means less calories.  The average recipe nowadays is a fifth bigger and contains 115 calories more per serving on average.  Have a bit of fun with it – try using different recipe books from different decades – it may broaden your cooking repertoire and your tastebuds!

3 – Chew for Longer…

If you chew each mouthful 12 times it will take you roughly nine seconds, and eating slower has  has been proven to make you feel fuller – chewing 12 times and taking 9 seconds to do so has been said that it is the golden time to make you the fullest after eating.

4 – Watch your Daily Calorie Intake…

Every time you eat a high calorie meal try to make sure that the meal before it and the one after it are lower in calories and that will balance out your calorie intake and you are unlikely to gain as much weight.  The perfect low calorie meal is around 300-400 calories and will be around half a plate full of salad or other non starchy vegetables, then filling the other half between a little lean meat or protein the size of your fist and wholegrain carbs.

5 – You Eat 35% More Eating Out…

interesting to know that when eating out with friends you eat around 35% more than you would at home – often because you are tempted by the menu, and you are also swayed by their decisions – for example if they order a starter and dessert so will you…try ordering first as then you will set the tone for the table and make others follow your healthy lead – unless of course your not paying 😉

6 – Eat off a Small Plate…

It may sound obvious but by simply switching to as smaller plate you just can’t fit as much food on,  which will naturally cut the calories.

7 – The 3 Different Tastes Per Plate Rule…

Don’t put more than three ( non vegetable ) tastes on your plate as the more variety there is in a meal the more you eat.  Studies have shown that this is because every time you taste a new ingredient in a meal it resets your tastebuds, making it easier for you to overeat!
